so instead of what would normally be your piping hot monthly Bitcoin digest I am still going to do that but I'm going to really focus today on Bitcoin mining because there is a lot going on centralization in terms of mining pools is on the rise and yet there are a number of efforts underway to combat this where will all of this net out today we're going to discuss let's jump [Music] in [Music] so I hadn't actually looked at these numbers in a few months and so I was pretty struck by this post from Chris B showing that the two top mining pools so Foundry in the US and then ant pool uh which is a Chinese pool comprise 55% of Bitcoin hash rate and so I confirmed that by going over to the brains mining insights dashboard and indeed right that that is reflective here and the reason that's alarming is a few fold for one that number has crept up from probably like 50 51 52 even earlier this year so adding a few percentage points is pretty significant over that period of time additionally both of these pools are kyc meaning they have the information of who these miners are now if you're brand new to how mining pools actually work you can check out the video I've done on that exact topic and we'll get into some of that as we go along here but it's therefore not difficult to Envision how this could become a real issue if all of the constituent miners Within These pools are kyc and furthermore at least in the case of Foundry I'm less so sure about ampool these are typically like the big publicly traded us miners right like these are Big operations while it is the case that one of these pools is based in the US one of these pools is in China and those two governments uh don't exactly get along could there be some sort of coordinated effort to censor certain types of transactions or even conduct some sort of 51% attack so it's a real issue now sort of the first response that one should have to that is well it's quite easy for me to point my hash elsewhere I can basically change my config file on my mining machines to point from one pool to another and I can do that pretty instantaneously check out a whole video I did on proof of work versus proof of stake where I go into that and a number of other dimensions that demonstrate that in practice it's not as bad as it sounds with that said it should give us all pause this is not something we should sweep under the rug and sing kumaya and just sort of hope it it all turns out okay and I would invite you to check out this excellent article written by Bob Bernett uh some of you may know him as Boomer BTC on Twitter and in it he puts together this framework of these three categories of Miners and you can see how he's sizing it up right less than 10 servers you know maybe 1 kilowatt to 20 kilow hour sites he calls these these you know wild rabbits right and it's easy to see where he's going with this rabbits right they can scatter uh quickly if there's a threat they're difficult to track at least in numbers easy to hide they're Nimble they're they're mobile horses still retain a lot of those nice traits right they're fast they can they can move they're mobile they can hide somewhat certainly less so than rabbits but then you get all the way up to these really big boys and what Bob calls the captive elephants because these guys are huge these are 5 th000 plus server sites you know 20 megawatt to a gwatt plus they're slow it's very difficult to move this it's easy to find them right they also tend to be captive in the sense that they're participating in these KY seed mining pools but what if in a future State economies of scale gradually lead to 99% of the Network's hash rate being concentrated in these captive elephant sites and so in such a scenario and granted this is with low probability Bob even acknowledges that but that provides the ability to have some sort of orchestrated attack where we're not even talking now about a 51% attack what if governments collude and remove the power supply that's feeding these sites right which are probably plugged into public utility type infrastructure this could result in a massive share of the hash rate going offline overnight we're talking China ban 2021 except magnified much much bigger so what would happen well it would be it would take an exceedingly long time to find the next block and the problem is that the difficulty adjustment happens on a block time basis it happens every 2016 blocks which on average is every 2 weeks roughly but when you take all this hash rate off it could take years to get to the next difficulty adjustment because blocks would be produced at such a slow rate with such a small fraction of the global hash power that's still online and so yes blocks would technically still be produced but it would greatly impact and Shake confidence it would greatly disrupt the network and he goes into some scenar SC arios here about what that could actually look like in terms of time that it would take you know and so again in summary it could take over a year to get those difficulty adjustments and get the network Back in Balance and so again there's so many assumptions built into this type of scenario and Bob admits that and I think we would all acknowledge that well there's a humongous amount of concerted effort have governments ever been able to uh coordinate effectively with each other but again I do think this is instructive and while on the one hand we saw how resilient the network was when you had the China ban and half of the Network's hash rate came offline and the network very rapidly recovered from that what happened was a lot of that hash rate came to the US and is now plugged into a kyc pool like Foundry and so if you leave this video with nothing else I would encourage you to think about how you can support either directly or indirect directly the promotion of wild rabbits and horses as opposed to captive elephants and the good news is that there are a number of efforts underway to do just that so let's now talk through some of those potential mitigating Solutions and what's happening in the world of mining one big factor is stratum V2 the second generation protocol that governs how information is communicated from constituent miners to the mining pool operator and the so the status quo for the most part is what's happening if you're running a number of as6 and you're plugged up to a mining pool really all you're doing is sort of dumbly contributing your hash rate to the pool it's actually the pool that is producing What's called the block template which is defining which transactions from the mempool are actually going to be packaged up into the block and you can see how this could be an issue right if it's just the mining pole all the way up at the top that's defining which transactions make it into a block that's a very small number of enforcement points for Regulators to put pressure and say Hey you know you have to include these types of transactions or exclude these types of transactions Etc and so what stratum V2 does in addition to other things is it enables the constituent miners the component miners to produce their own block template that's a huge deal now those binders can still include or exclude whatever transactions they want but within you're going to see a whole range of different block templates so stratum V2 definitely helps with censorship resistance in a big way and excitingly two newly created pools have now announced that they will be integrating stratum V2 one is demand pool and the other is ocean mining on the topic of ocean mining let's talk about that because the other sort of solution Vector here is the way that these pools are created themselves and so there's been a whole lot of news lately around ocean mining for those that may have missed it ocean mining is basically a Revival of the old elus uh pool that Luke Dash jior who's a Bitcoin cordev uh ran back in the day I think from like 2010 to 2017 along with Bitcoin mechanic they've made a real Splash they have a $6.2 million seed round LED by Jack dorsy so there's been a lot of fanfare particularly given some of the promises that ocean has made it's introducing itself as this new decentralized mining pool to address and combat some of the issues we've just discussed and so some of the claims it makes is that it's very transparent you can actually go to ocean. XYZ block template and see the actual block template that is going to be used by the pool that is very cool it also claims to be decentralized in the sense that it's promising to implement stratum V2 for miners to create their own block templates and it's also promising to be non-custodial in that they're doing the coinbase payout so the block reward from winning a block directly to miners so it's a trustless payout but there's been a lot of controversy with this launch and I also think some rather poor communication and marketing on behalf of ocean mining so let's break down what the truth actually is in terms of transparency yes that is nice we saw the block template uh that you can go and see and look at and furthermore they've indicated that they would actually reduce the 2% pool feed down to 1% for miners that actually produce their own block template so they would be providing an economic incentive for you to create your own block template that is very cool if they follow through with that in terms of the non-custodial nature however it is not clear that that is actually true given that they still have a minimum payout threshold so for smaller miners you're probably still going to have to acrew a certain number of SATs before they pay you out and that is no different than any other mining pool although they have talked about potentially using the lightning Network to enable instant withdrawals for smaller amounts which would be very very cool there's other proposals as well something called braid poool which also seeks to help address that so it'll be interesting to see what and if ocean implements any of that but as of now it is not any more non-custodial or custodial than other mining pools unless you are a big Miner and then there has been a whole bunch of debate around censorship and a lot of controversy here so it was believed that they were filtering out uh inscription transactions or ordinals if you're new to that whole thing I have done a whole video on that as well then it was revealed that in the block template they were including inscriptions and so no one knew what was going on however they have confirmed as we can see that they do intend to filter out inscription transactions hle tra makes a very good question he says well if I create my own block template and submit it is that going to get rejected from Ocean pool to which Luke Dash JR says absolutely would be accepted rejecting blocks miners make would defeat the whole point he is absolutely right however I strongly discourage it so clearly there's a strong ideological stance here from Luke Bitcoin mechanic against inscriptions and even if you don't like the idea of ordinals and inscriptions I personally think it is still disappointing to see that type of censorship because they could potentially end up hitting themselves in the foot when they are less competitive versus other pools that are going to put those types of transactions in furthermore it was revealed that the Bitcoin Nots node implementation that's being used by ocean mining was actually filtering out Samurai Whirlpool TX zeros this is the first transaction that is completed when you're entering the samurai whirpool if you're not familiar with that or with coin join I've done whole videos on that topic as well so you had a pretty big backlash from the samurai uh Community saying oh my gosh you know this is all this censorship you're doing this deliberately and maliciously and while at first it looked really bad it actually turns out as we can see that the knots node implementation has been filtering out transactions with OP return greater than 42 bytes for a long time and so I don't think there's any purposeful filtering for the samurai transaction specifically but all of this at least raises the question of okay like is Right miners can of course do what they want but is censorship good or bad it'll be very interesting to see when they do Implement stratum V2 and miners are submitting their own block templates does ocean mining actually accept those templates if they include things like inscription transactions Etc again we have Luke on record there saying that they will but I think it remains to be seen because as we can see here there is some pretty harsh criticism that ocean is receiving from the OG Bitcoin talk Forum they're talking about you know Luke Das Jr's uh history of poolside censorship so there is a humongous learning here slay all your Heroes don't take all the hype at face value nor should you take all the criticism at face value the truth with these things is often in between everyone is so quick to draw a conclusion and publish their thoughts on Twitter for clicks and engagement but take some time to really wrestle with the these issues ocean mining is neither this sort of perfect shining thing that it was made out to be upon its launch nor is it this dramatic attack and malicious thing net net I actually think it is moving in the right direction if it follows through on its Promises of implementing Straton V2 respecting the block templates created by its constituent miners implementing something like the lightning Network to make payouts truly trustless even for smaller miners if it does all those things then it is definitely ahead of the game when compared to other pools and furthermore this has now kicked off yet more Innovation within the mining pool space we can see here that public pool and Seth for privacy have teamed up to to enable anyone to spin up a new mining pool themselves which is very very cool and I'm sure we will see all sorts of pool Concepts coming out of this which of those will grow to be actually meaningful maybe none of them maybe some of them uh but it'll be really interesting to see and I think the critical part at this point is to have the tools available to create different mining pools with different tradeoffs and collectively these efforts are going to go towards helping what is yet another risk which is the fact that we're now seeing these outof band transactions that means I'm a user and I want to directly negotiate with with a minor to include a transaction into the next block without broadcasting it to the broader peer-to-peer Network this is a huge issue because to the degree that activity happens out of band we no longer have a truly accurate fee picture which impacts any sort of Layer Two like lightning that is dependent on layer one for channel openings and things like that it also opens up considerations around me or minor extractable value but we won't go into too much detail there but in essence all of these efforts I think will move the needle in mitigating some of these more structural incentive type potential risks and then perhaps one final mitigating solution Vector to think about is supply chain decentralization of course there are only really two main uh manufacturers of A6 and so I've been very very excited to see the beginning of this movement around open- Source Asic Hardware like bit a highly accessible using a legit Asic chip it's very very cool if you want to kind of get your hands on one if you want to by the way I would recommend going to D Central um they're currently partnering with us at jolts rewards which is the startup I'm a co-founder of for Bitcoin rewards so you can get some SATs back when you buy one but again these are not powerful enough to really move the needle yet but it's very exciting to kind of see where this might go the more we can open source things like A6 the better so in conclusion I think these issues are real and I think it is time for the community to seriously think about this and not just sort of Kick the Can and be like well miners can point their hash at another pool it's like yeah that's true but there's a lot of these miners who are only going to point their hash at a sort of approved pool I.E a pool that does kyc I think that's a somewhat naive and certainly insufficient argument which is why I think some of these different solutions definitely stratom V2 definitely some of the Innovation around pools and then some of the open- Source Hardware Innovation that we're seeing with things like bit ax all of that is going to move the needle and at least start a movement and again if nothing else I would invite you to contemplate that framework that Bob laid out how can we Foster and promote more wild rabbits and horses and less captive elephants but I'm curious to hear your thoughts what do you think of this whole debate are these it's the beginning of a new month and that means it is time for your piping hot monthly Bitcoin digest as we often do we are going to be covering a little bit of everything we're going to start off with a little bit around macro what is happening around the world which I think is very interesting we're going to talk about some of the regulatory clownery that is coming out and then lastly we are going to talk about some of the latest and greatest around Bitcoin Technology Innovation and tools without further Ado let's jump in [Music] so building on what I covered in the last month's digest Edition it is fascinating to continue to see this narrative emerging around Bitcoin being this kind of flight to safety or this Safe Haven asset this is very different than what we've been told time and time again that oh Bitcoin is this risk on asset and I think if you look at a lot of historical data that is certainly true but it is interesting to take stock of what we're seeing of speaking of stocks we can see that the correlation between Bitcoin and the S&P 500 has now flipped negative so there is this Divergence that's happening right and interestingly you can see that this is not the first time that has happened in fact when it has happened previously that tends to have preceded the ensuing Bull Run so pretty interesting signal to see there looking outside of stocks again we've been told time and time again that well Bitcoin will just never survive a more normal interest rate regime and yet here we are Bitcoin is up over 100% year to date when priced in the USD and so one could argue well that's because the market is anticipating a pausing and reversal of the rate hikes and the injection of new liquidity we saw that with the bank term funding program which I've covered in Prior videos earlier this year but I think it's still pretty remarkable again all the pundits said Bitcoin literally could not survive and what we saw instead was a pretty normal price crash that has followed prior Cycles as well what's even crazier over this same year-to-date time frame is that long-term US government bonds are down 14% as we can see this is wild especially as we see more Wars conflict where is the flight to safety that we've typically seen and that the mainstream media and political and financial Elite would have you believe in fact as Dylan shows here Bitcoin is actually close to an all-time high when priced in treasury bonds we've also seen gold nearing its all-time high priced in USD and yields on 10year treasuries topped 5% in what looked like it was going to be the start of an avalanche now to be fair over the last couple days in particular yields have pulled back rather sharply we can also see that the 30-year over 2year has uninverted which perhaps could finally be this harbinger of people starting to flock back into long dated bonds as a safety measure and you can see again in this chart when that uninverted that's a pretty reliable predictor of a ensuing recession which a lot of people myself included have been expecting for some time so again that's hot off the press even over these last few days and so does that mean that perhaps things are changing perhaps Bitcoin isn't actually this sort of flight to safety but I'm not so sure if you've been following any of the news around Japan they are in a world of hurt we are finally starting to see the chickens coming home to roost as it relates to Japan's absolutely astronomical debt burden which again is different from the US in many fundamental ways which is why they've been able to kind of ride this thing out for so long but at the end of the day an unmanageable debt burden is an unmanageable debt burden and so what Japan has been doing with yield curve control I.E suppressing interest rates even while other jurisdictions have raised them mechanically that requires them to print the yen in order to pull this off which is devaluing the Yen quite rapidly and you're now starting to see I've seen a number of posts from people in Japan that are now starting to say you know what I'm for the first time in a very long time really notic ing increases in price especially things like energy gasoline Etc and so in order to control The Descent of the Yen the bank of Japan is selling treasuries right so they're selling the treasuries to get dollars and then they're using those dollars to buy the yen to again prop it up a little more than what would otherwise occur in order to sort of control and at least stem The Descent of the Yen as it were due to all the printing and oh by the way Japan can do this for a long long time they have an absolutely enormous War chest again remains to be seen but this sort of carry trade that's happening with the Japanese Yen looks like a really big deal hard to say where this leads but despite the pullback in treasury yields we've seen over these last few days one could easily imagine these other Dynamics very much throwing a wrench into the hopes that those yields would come down and the price of these bonds would start to go back up and again regardless of the near-term Dynamics it seems to me that the cat is out of the bag and more and more different types of entities are discovering the merits of Bitcoin as this decentralized truly Global uncensorable zero counterparty risk type asset that is extraordinarily unique and so you've seen muhamad L Aran you've seen Larry thinkink you've seen Julian Timmer from Fidelity right all of this narrative is around look like despite these sort of shortterm short-term blips Bitcoin is is increasingly looking like this attractive store of value this relative Safe Haven versus government bonds that guess what aren't actually risk-free so net net what does that mean for you and me well I tend to agree with someone like Dylan lir and others that are expecting some sort of significant pullback over the next I don't know 3 to 6 months before we then truly launch into this next Bull Run but I'm also not necessarily betting on that and I think if you're not stacking sads you are inviting these big institutions to just come in and grab all the Bitcoin right I think we are very close if not there already and in many ways that's discouraging right in many ways a lot of us would love to see lower prices for longer so that we can continue to stack stats but I just don't think that's realistic and so I do think there is is some urgency around trying to hit your stacking goal you know between now and let's call it a year from now going hard in the paint I think is something we're going to look back at and be grateful that we did but let's move on now to our next topic which is some of the regulatory clownery that we've seen from none other than Elizabeth Warren surprise surprise again this next bit is a little bit uh us Centric admittedly but I do think in many cases we've seen some of this rhetoric that starts in the US start to propagate elsewhere or vice versa and so basically what happened was that the Wall Street Journal ran a report citing blockchain data from elliptic making the claim that Hamas terrorists had raised all these millions and millions of dollars worth of crypto so Elizabeth Warren sees this gets a hundred other legislators to sign some letter that goes to the White House in the treasury that says hey you know look see we told you cryptos for moneya launderers and terrorists and all this and that and so interestingly enough elliptic actually published a Blog where they outed her and said as we can see there is no evidence to support the assertion that Hamas has received significant volumes of crypto donations uh elliptic has engaged with the Wall Street Journal to correct misinterpretations of the level of crypto fundraising by Hamas in addition we have been in discussions with the office of Senator Warren to ensure that the relevant parties have a proper appreciation of the complexities and nuances of analyzing these wallets so Elizabeth Warren who claims she started her career to go after the banks is now the bank's biggest mouthpiece and who is now at this point pretty much singlehandedly leading the Crusade against Bitcoin in the US and again this will not just be a us phenomenon you're going to see this rhetoric continue to unfold as these conflicts continue which is that well terrorist groups are using this as a method of financing themselves and so the Wall Street Journal very sheepishly kind of published a little a little correction a little note that whoops we got it completely wrong and yet that seemingly hasn't stopped Senator Warren from continuing her clownery and most recently she is seen here citing various techniques that are allowing this illicit Behavior to happen one of which she includes is self custody now Elizabeth Warren politicians bureaucrats parasites all around the world are never going to be able ban math and I don't think we would see any sort of self- custody ban in the near term but we should remember history when the US made it illegal for citizens to hold gold back in the 1930s under threat of 10 years in prison and so my challenge to you is to at least think about what would you do in such a situation I think it is absolutely critical that we all learn the skills of self- custody we learn how to use use Bitcoin privately yes it is possible to use Bitcoin in a highly private way and again this is not to propagate elicit activity but you simply have a right to privacy and you certainly have a right to your own property self- custody is a must again if you have your Bitcoin on exchanges you have to get them off and so I have a whole playlist on this channel as you may be aware of how to take self- custody all sorts of different Hardware wallet options all sorts of different desktop wallet options Samurai wall Wasabi wallet different privacy techniques so check out my channel content because again despite government's typically moving quite slowly I personally think this type of Regulation could be a gradually then suddenly type of thing as well especially as institutions are piling in while yes all of this is probably going to be good for number go up it is not necessarily a good thing for self- sovereignty of the individual and so you have to take precautions and you have to also think about like what would you do personally and with your family if there were to be such a threat to your ability to self cussy Bitcoin if you're curious for what I'm doing you can hit me up on Vita and I'm happy to share some of what I'm thinking about for what admittedly I think is a tail risk but a tail risk that should be considered seriously nonetheless now as the final topic for today let's move on to some of the happenings around Bitcoin Tech and Innovation as I referenced in my prior edition of the monthly digest I really do think it is somewhat of a Renaissance when it comes to building on bitcoin I'm not saying everyone necessarily agrees with all the things that are being built or that are trying to be built but it is extraordinary to see the absolute influx of developers coming back to bitcoin or coming to bitcoin for the very first time and like it or not a lot of this did get kicked off with ordinals earlier this year now I have mixed thoughts around ordinals as I've covered in Prior videos but like it or not that has heralded a lot of other interesting developments notably we saw bit VM come into the spotlight in October bit VM is basically a virtual machine where you in theory could do whatever sort of arbitrary computation and they have found a way to fit this virtual machine into Bitcoin in a way that doesn't disturb the base layer this is very significant right the ability to do some of this stuff was always presumed to require some sort of a soft Fork which is always going to be contentious Etc but at least thus far bit bit VM appears to not require that which is a humongous deal and make sure you're subscribed I'm going to do a deep di video on bit VM and some of the different use cases this could support in the very near future But it includes things that I think are going to be pretty universally valuable regardless of what type of Bitcoin user you are this could include things like potentially supporting zero knowledge rollups or different l2s on bitcoin and make no mistake there are going to need to be a variety of l2s with all sorts of different tradeoffs some that are more focused on trust minimization security some that are going to be more focus on scalability but for Bitcoin to grow to support the entire planet make no mistake that is going to be a requirement and there's a lot of really cool zero knowledge technology that can add compelling privacy benefits for users that I think would unambiguously be valuable for pretty much everyone we also saw blockstream formally launch their green light lightning as a service capability the reason this is so important is this enables other developers to add non-custodial lightning to their apps for those of you that are familiar with Breeze and uh what's started out as the breeze wallet Breeze has gone on to create their SDK that actually uses green light in the background and so this is also a huge deal because the lightning Network rightly so has received criticism in the past for being po potentially too custodial right you you look out at the level of activity a lot of people out there are using custodial wallets and again there's nothing inherently wrong with that people are free to make whatever decisions they want with their money including trusting it with a custodian but obviously we would prefer to have robust non-custodial methods for using the lightning Network I have covered all sorts of self- custodial lightning Wallets on this channel I have showed you how to build a lightning node from scratch I have shown you how to run your own lightning node all that good stuff but I'm more of a hobbyist maybe you are too and so for businesses that want to start adding lightning to their apps in the right way I.E making it non-custodial green light is now a terrific toolkit to enable that and so if you're a developer I would encourage you to check out their documentation they have a free tier where you can get started just to sort of play around with it but that is a very welcome addition to the lightning ecosystem that I hope on balance will provide the tools for non-custodial lightning usage to proliferate additionally we saw the launch of the tap rot assets protocol on mainnet Tapo assets formerly known as taros developed by lightning labs and this is a protocol to make Bitcoin and the lightning Network as well a multi-asset network the ability to create stable coins that can be transferred using the existing Network effect and liquidity of the lightning Network the ability to create Collectibles again many of you watching I know are not as fond of these types of use cases but I very much see these as additional ladders that are being stacked up to the life WP that is Bitcoin that some are going to use to stumble their way onto this remarkable thing that is Bitcoin and so be sure you are subscribed because at jolts which is my uh my day job to bitcoin rewards and loyalty so there are an estimated 200 plus billion dollars worth of loyalty value sloshing about globally this is the value of all the miles points and other units of loyalty value and so how do we get this Global loyalty economy onto a Bitcoin standard today we discuss let's jump in [Music] okay so admittedly today is a bit of an opportunity to Market test some of the ideas that we've been thinking about with jolts for those that are not aware that is really my day job I am the co-founder of a Bitcoin rewards startup so this is not intended to be a purely sort of self-shill video do you think there's some real value here for you guys and that is why I wanted to do a video on this today and the big nut we're trying to crack in all this and the vision for us at jolts is how do we get SATs into the hands of more individuals through this Vector that is loyalty and don't get me wrong I want as many ways for plebs to stack SATs as possible but a lot of the existing Bitcoin rewards Solutions whether they're card based whether you know you have to download a separate app or a browser extension Etc but it's like how do we get Bitcoin rewards out into all these existing business environments that have existing customer bases Etc think of all the traditional loyalty platforms for example think of all the bigger Merchants that have a standalone loyalty app perhaps that their customers use how do we build the technology to get Bitcoin rewards into all these different environments that is really what we've gone after with Joel's and so we started that Journey with e-commerce Merchants think of Shopify stores woocommerce stores and so we launched earlier this year the world's first integration where these types of merchants can add Bitcoin rewards to their store so you could say hey I want to do five percent back on all purchases maybe you get three percent back but you have to spend a certain amount so there's different ways in business logic with which you can craft these offers and so for those watching the first and foremost topic I wanted to cover is some of the ways that you could go and stack some SATs and so if you head over to joltsrewards.com you will see our home page here and then if you simply scroll down a little bit you'll see this shop now button so you can click this and be taken to our different brand fans and we're cleaning this page up a little bit but you get the point you can see these different offers so one percent back on all purchases at Bitcoin trading cards you've got Mr Satoshi which is an apparel store you've got a five percent back with shamery uh you've got Bitcoin clothing you've got panties for Bitcoin you've got uh consensus which has all sorts of terrific Bitcoin books and content like that you've got crypto Boutique they've got all sorts of different Hardware wallets so you can go and get five percent back on Hardware wallets we've got decentral so these guys are running anywhere between three percent to ten percent back on mining equipment and you can get like smaller miners you could do some you know home Pub Mining and we've got some more coming online so definitely check this out again you can get everything from Bitcoin merch to Hardware wallets to mining equipment uh and more and how that experience will look just so you're aware let me pop over to our little uh this is just our demo store for Shopify so you know let's imagine I'm buying you know this handsome pair of socks you'll see the offer at the top most of our partners have some sort of banner that says hey you know this is what the offer is I can say buy it now and so I'm gonna go through the normal flow I'm gonna put in my you know email billing address all that good stuff and then on the payment page I've just put this sort of test information in for uh car transaction but this all also works with paying in Bitcoin you know we have customers who accept payments over BTC pay server open node Etc and so I just hit pay now and so I've checked out and in most cases what you'll actually see is a pop-up that looks something like the following so it'll say Hey you know congrats you've earned some Bitcoin click here to claim and then what that will do is if it's your very very first time using jolts it will send an authentication email that looks something like this so it'll say hi you know your recent purchase at whatever Merchant qualifies you for a small reward of Bitcoin and so you can go ahead and claim your reward the reason we tie this to emails for now is as you can imagine not everyone is going to have a you know a lightning address that they could put in or you know a lightning wallet that they could authenticate through Etc so we want to make this really accessible obviously that's something we continue to think about one exciting feature we are building though is the in that pop-up that you see the ability to sort of toggle and say hey just go ahead and display the Ln URL withdraw code immediately so boom you can scan that with a lightning wallet and you know and Away you go and then for people who don't yet have a lightning wallet they can go the email route so that'll be a really nice feature once we've built that out but think of this as just like a magic link authentication process connected to whatever email you anyways used to make the purchase and then once you claim that reward you'll be brought to your little jolts dashboard you can see all my reward history here you can see your balance at the top so if I click this I can submit a withdrawal request I can go ahead and hit submit and I get this Ln URL withdrawal code that I can scan with any lightning wallet that supports lnurl which is you know most of them these days for example I'm doing this on desktop so I can just click this bad boy and that'll bring up my Albi lightning browser extension that I'm using I'll go ahead and hit confirm and you can see my balance has updated accordingly so very very simple and so this is accessible for people who maybe don't yet have a lightning wallet obviously we want to encourage them to get one as I will mention in a moment we're working on our own that's going to be really really sick it's going to be a self-custodial wallet highly highly highly usable that is how you can withdraw your SATs instantly over the lightning Network for shopping at any of our great Partners so that was kind of the first topic I wanted to cover with you guys uh by the way if you're watching this and you run any sort of store you can come over to our e-commerce plugins Tab and you can see the platforms that we support so we support Shopify woocommerce Euclid really really easy to implement this you can see an example case study from one of our customers it's been really really encouraging to see the impact that these rewards can have whether it's in conversion rate a little bit higher average order value and a significant Roi when you consider the cost of rewards Etc um we basically do a five percent of those rewards so let's say you give out a hundred dollars in rewards over the course of a month we would add a five dollar service fee in that case so it is pretty simple you have a slow month we have a slow month all of this scales to your business we don't slap you with an upfront you know subscription uh fee so in any case if you do run a store and you're interested in um exploring this you can just come over and say get started and this will just take you through a simple little form that we can understand the type of reward you want to create uh and we can get that going for you in the background so if you're a SAT stacker you can check out the shop Brands page if you're a store you can check out the e-commerce plugins the other really really exciting thing we just launched this week and this is part of why I wanted to do this video now is that we have launched our more general purpose Bitcoin rewards API you see we got this coverage by bitcoin news I'll link this article in the description down below for you to take a look at but this I personally believe and obviously very biased in that belief but I think this is a huge deal and a really big ingredient that's going to be necessary for bringing Bitcoin rewards mainstream so if I pop over back to our website and go over to API integration you'll see you have a form where you can request access to our API you can also take a quick look at uh some of our Docs and you can request access here as well but you'll basically see the different pieces that we're building out here so we've got like core Bitcoin rewards so you could add this to your app to your website whatever you know maybe for making a purchase or we also have referrals right you want to drive referrals to your business you want to reward those referrers with Bitcoin we've got a way for you to do that we've got other awesome stuff with Taproot assets that I will talk about uh coming soon and so why do I believe this is a big deal well now any business any entity can pull Bitcoin rewards into their existing environment so this could be a big Merchant like Starbucks which obviously has its own Standalone app We Believe Bitcoin is inevitable We Believe business is offering and incorporating Bitcoin into their loyalty programs is inevitable and so now Starbucks instead of going out and building all this expertise internally they can just go and use our API and plop whatever Bitcoin reward experiences they want into their app that could be an opt-in option for their users to say hey you know what I want to earn in Bitcoin or maybe I want to convert my points into Bitcoin Etc et cetera we're also talking to traditional loyalty platforms so the technology behind the loyalty programs of some of these different merchants and so same thing hey younger Generations especially are increasingly valuing Bitcoin why not enhance the value proposition of your loyalty program by including the option to earn in Bitcoin so we can integrate with traditional loyalty platforms as well and the final really exciting category is some of these players like Ibex light spark there's a number of these now who do lightning Network payments as they go to Merchants and other sorts of entities to sell in lightning Network payments we have an opportunity to be this value-added service because what goes well with payments rewards and in fact in a lot of conversations we're having rewards might even be the first step for a merchant to go onto a Bitcoin standard they may look at accepting Bitcoin payments as like well what do I have to do do for that how do I hold it securely there's other things they have to think about for accepting Bitcoin as payment and don't get me wrong I've done a ton of content on this channel about various ways to accept Bitcoin as payment but the simple fact is that a lot of merchants are a little bit hesitant so rewards can be this kind of dip your toes in experience where we take care of everything or we could spin up a lightning node on behalf of the merchant if they want to do it that way but they can see how their customers and how their consumers react to the rewards and then that gives them the motivation and the sort of learnings and insights to build a business case to then stack Bitcoin on their company treasury or adopt it as a payment method Etc so that's the API again super excited about that if you're a developer or you work for a company that could have a use case for Bitcoin rewards check out our documentation reach out to me on Twitter or not sir happy to connect on any of this and then the final topic I wanted to talk about is circling back to that 200 billion plus number that we said at the very outset of the video that is the value of all these units of loyalty value that sit in these different closed silos right you've got your points here your points here they don't really talk to each other they can't really do that much there's all these restrictions they can be diluted at a moment's notice you have all these sort of core pain points in the traditional world of loyalty and so that's why we're really excited about Taproot assets so for those not as familiar I will try and Link some of the content I've done in the past this is formerly known as the Taro protocol it has now been rebranded to Taproot assets and we are very very imminently close to having the Taproot assets protocol uh being pretty fully baked in terms of being backwards compatible you know no breaking changes so that's going to probably unfold over the next couple months and so at joltz we're actually building a self-custodial lightning wallet that will also be compatible for Taproot assets so if you're not already follow us on Twitter at at jolt's rewards because this I think is going to be really really cool not just for the self-custodial lightning wallet but for some of the additional use cases that can be unlocked with tampered Assets Now I know the idea of tokens on bitcoin is a very controversial one and there are no doubt potential risks associated with it at the same time it's myopic just to look at the risk you have to also look at the benefits and the analogy I like to use and I thought of this on Kevin rook's podcast that I did earlier this week is you know we all think of Bitcoin of course as this life route and today there are a number of ladders to get people onto the life raft and so what protocols like Taproot assets or even RGB which I've done content on on this channel what they do is they stack up additional ladders to the life raft for example one of the big use cases for tokens on bitcoin are things like stable coins now look I'm not going to be stacking stable coins I'm not going to recommend any of you to stack stable coins but for a lot of people in the world just look at the market cap of tether of usdc Etc there's clearly a large demand and that includes in places like the global South and elsewhere where people have harder access to get to Dollar liquidity so all I'm saying is that we'll like it or not again I don't have a use case for it and many of you watching probably don't have a use case for it there are a lot of people out there who do and that might be the latter through which they stumble onto the Bitcoin life raft and so if done properly if built in an efficient way in terms of block space which I believe Taproot assets things like RGB do whereas things like ordinals brc20 tokens I think do not those are a far less efficient use of block space for creating tokens on bitcoin and so if done well if done efficiently I think the benefits outweigh the cost that's where I fall on this on net and so what we're thinking about with jolts how could these assets apply to the Loyalty market and there's two different ways one you could have loyalty Collectibles that could serve as maybe a a more privacy minded alternative to logging into a Merchant's website being able to access exclusive content token gated access to new product launches all these sorts of use cases could be unlocked with these Taproot asset loyalty Collectibles the other kind of bigger Vision more far out a little more meta is to tokenize these different loyalty points themselves and have them zipping along as fungible tokens on Lightning rails think about how today you might have certain Partnerships between Merchants where let's say you have some airline miles right and maybe that airline has a relationship with a hotel chain where you can redeem some of your miles for a discount on your hotel stay so what happens behind the scenes those loyalty systems are incredibly archaic they're not particularly interoperable they're these closed systems that are kind of clued together to enable you the consumer to do that but what's happening behind the scenes that you're not aware of is that there's a lot of are you leaking because these systems are not open and interoperable and so while sure you can maybe hobble along and kind of complete that transaction there's a lot of value that's being leached now imagine instead for the same reasons as you hear Jack mallers and others espouse the benefits of the lightning Network as being this open interoperable payments Network that's going to inevitably out compete closed payment networks so too do we think this Dynamic operates for loyalty so imagine those airline miles and those Hotel points all zipping across lightning Network rails being denominated in SAS being easily and immediately redeemable in SATs and being easily exchangeable across these different forms of value this is how you start to denominate that 200 plus billion dollar loyalty economy in Bitcoin this is a massive win for the consumer suddenly I now have the increased optionality and flexibility to exchange any of these forms of value you into SATs or into each other and for merchants while this is going to be initially scary they want their little closed Garden make no mistake we are already seeing early signs of what this more open loyalty Paradigm might look like Starbucks and others have started to do some very interesting experiments in this regard and so for merchants that participate in this they're ultimately going to get a huge leg up by being able to offer a unambiguously superior value proposition for their loyalty program to Consumers they're going to benefit from additional discoverability imagine when you unleash the free market of individuals to exchange these different forms of value and sort of allocate these different forms of value in a more efficient way and so that's the kind of big vision and road map that we are aiming for at jolts obviously we have to crawl before we walk before we run but with all that let's go ahead and conclude today's video so I must thank you all for allowing me to do a little bit of a
